experience summary

Kai UnEarthed is an Afrofuturist, multimedia experience with physical and digital components. It is a meditation on unpoliced futures healing from climate change. The game includes an expansive 3D audiovisual environment, including psychadelic and speculative elements. Players can also print out, write, and draw in a physical journal and engage in embodied meditation practices. The game's activities prompt you to reflect on the choices you make, the artifacts you leave behind, and the worlds that will grow out of them.

Sound Designer

• Created ethereal, futuristic, healing sounds for scenes in which the player is bathing and meditating

Workshop Facilitator

• Led a section of a collaborative game jam featuring Kai UnEarthed
• Players engaged with journal prompts from the game, and generated their own radically imaginative ideas for humanity's future
• Led discussion and helped to analyze results for M. Coopilton's research on critical game literacies and Afrofuturist game development
